I have been hearing that for a few years now. I believe that the show IS in trouble. But they are on the right track bringing back classic characters like Phillip and Edmund. I hear they might bring back Michelle and Danny Santos too. I would love to see them bring back Jonathan. (But please, bring back the same actor that played him before. He was so good as Jonathan!) I think that they are planning to bring him back. I think Phillip will be the one to bring him and Sarah back to help make things up to Lizzie.

Edit -- That's why the CBS station in New York moved the show to 10 a.m. So they could get more New Yorkers to watch the show and they put Dr. Phil up against General Hospital at 3 p.m.

This rumor has been swirling for quite some time. Apparently the ratings keep getting lower and lower. A lot of fans stopped watching when they switched to the new filming format in February of last year. Then people started to watch less and less as all the well loved characters started to leave(Harley,Gus and so on)..Guiding Light has been the longest running soap in daytime history, so I hope that they will be able to pull themselves out of this mess. With them bringing back Phillip was a good move and hopefully they will continue to do that with some of the other long term characters.

There was a question asked a few days ago about canceling Guiding Light here is the link to the question.

Anita gave you a link to a question that lists the phone number, email and mailing address you can use to contact the Powers That Be at CBS and tell them you are a GL fan. Don't know if it will help at this point, but I suppose it is worth a shot.

I started watching GL with my Mom after school and in the summers, many years ago. We had stopped watching it for awhile but I have gotten back into it the past 3 months or so. There has been such great acting performances lately. Beth and Buzz have done wonderful jobs. I thought bringing back Phillip, Alex, and Edmund would help.

They are now getting back to the core of the extended families, which, in my opinion, is what made it a great show to begin with!

This rumor has indeed been around while, especially since Guiding Light's conversion to handheld video taping rather than the multi-camera setup. I too have heard this several times, even today. It was thought that the returns of Phillip and Edmund would boost ratings, but this turned out to no avail. It's almost like Guiding Light is taking the storylines purposely slow, in order to buy time. At this point, I think that Guiding Light will go before Days of Our Lives does. It's almost ashamed to see a 72-year-old history maker go out in a blaze of bad ratings, bad acting, and bad storylines, but that looks like what it will come to. Don't get me wrong; I love to watch Guiding Light, or I used to at least. And I hate this for them, but it's just come to be that time in a soap opera's life that is its time to expire. R.I.P Guiding Light.

the show has been in trouble for a couple yrs now- they had to move to a cheaper studio - go to handheld cameras and shoot outside more- which cuts down on the tech/studio crew

they fired or had actors take pay cuts-some actors left

the ratings having been going down for 2-3 straight yrs now-Gl is at the bottom of the soap ratings

it currently gets half the viewers ( ratings wise) of what Y&R gets- thus making the network less money

This is the 2nd time I've heard this today.

I've been a loyal fan since 1980! I really hope they don't cancel it. It IS the longest running soap and I hope it stays running!

I think it gets better and better.

I also read that they're bringing Michelle and Danny back this spring.

Perhaps all these actors coming back (recently Phillip) is a last hurrah for the soap??

I just hope they don't cancel it.
