1980's American tv show about a young computer genius?

Ok, I really need help with this.

I remember watching a show in the 1980's set in America about a teenage lad who was a computer genius. It had a sort of classical theme tune and he helped the cops with investigations and had a bedroom full of computers.

I remember one episode where he went to a computer shop to buy a chip and the villan bloke wanted the same chip and tried to buy it off him and that is what gave him away in the end.

Crikey, a bit vague eh....

my god.!! you have brought back some memories.!! the show was called "Whizz kids." the kid was the guy who was also in little house of the prairie. I think his name was matthew labourteux. Whizz kids used to be on about 5 on a saturday afternoon and i thought it was ace.!!!
