Why Guiding Light and not As The World Turns?

I like Guiding Light and hate that they are taking it off the air. No one I know of likes As The World Turns, I really wish they would pull it instead. Why Guiding Light and not As The World Turns?

Because GL had the lowest ratings. I expect ATWT will be canceled after 2010. Many soaps are on the chopping block.

From what I understand, As The World Turns is the next lowest one on the ratings (next to The Guiding Light). It has a year or so left on its contract and then it may be the next one to go. Guiding Light has been in financial crisis for awhile now. That's why they took to shooting scenes outdoors with the handheld cameras. I hate to see it go off the air as well!

As the World Turns is actually more popular than Guiding Light, although not by much. ATWT has been renewed for another year, and I hope that it stays around. Things are looking more and more promising as they are slowly getting their act back together. GL used to be unbeatable, but they have been having financial trouble since the millenium. Soap watching is down all around, and they are taking the blunt end of it. ATWT's ratings have been much more solid than GL, and they do sometimes appear in the top 3 for soaps. GL is constantly number 7.



Given that ATWT also has a larger fanbase, it is evident why they are taking GL off the air. I like Guiding Light, but ATWT is much more important to me. I am devasted that GL is being canceled, but ATWT has been and will continue to be a fixture in my home.

GL has the Lowest Ratings and has been in LAST place a couple yrs now- Low Ratings means a show is Not making Money for the network



did you know that GL is not even shown in some markets or is shown at 9/10am instead of afternoon like most soaps-loss of ratings there

I used to watch guiding light for years and i just fell out of liking it. Everyone is grown up it just seems to be so boring and bland. I switched over to as the world turns and have become instantly addicted. I truly hope they dont end as well

I didnt like any other soap but As The World Turns, I watched it since I was 10 yrs old--off & on, I am now 65---but I now am totally bored w/it. Since the loss of Lilly, it has gone down hill! They need more of Carly & Jack, more of Barbara & a goodlooking , ornery Craig & more of Lucinda. Get rid of Paul, the new Lilly, the soft spoken sister of Holden w/the new baby. They cant ACT nor talk. So I agree take off ATWT, cuz it aint worth watching & let another soap fan enjoy their show !!! To many new characters----& bad ones at that, especially Luke & whats his name-yuck !!!!

Well I think soon of later ATWT is going to be off air too! It has got so boring I miss the old characters like Will.Gwen, Maddie,Jennifer! It's just not the same anymore
