Will the soap opera with Ruth the Meanie and Robin RLP ever show them with redeeming qualities?

So far, the soap writers unfailingly portray them as mean, spiteful, and bitter hags.

Could they ever be portrayed as gentle but addled spinsters? I'm thinking that Ruth's threat to try to use her TV lawyer talents to sue anyone who doesn't like her may be more of a task than her depleted funds amassed as a middling Tennessee lawyer might accommodate. What do the writers have in mind with Ruth's latest Quixotic adventure?

While Robin is continually portrayed on the soap as a spendthrift and an unsatisfied housewife, could she ever be shown to have any redeeming qualities?

Is there a strictly non-Republican type liaison between Ruth and Robin looming in the creators' minds? I don't want to watch that scene but it could be used by the writers to morph them into more pleasant characters.

What's your take on this show?

Ratings on that soap have fallen. Every show is the same crap over and over again, Ruth tries in vain to reconcile her religious values with the fact that she's a mean spirited witch, while Robin lives in constant fear that the liberals and black people will steal her wealth. This show needs to fire the writers and come up with something new for these characters.

EDIT- justgoodfolk, LMAO, hilarious !

No, all soaps thrive on negativity, tensions and giving the viewer a sense of superior morality.

Ruth the Meanie and Robin TLP are comic relief by now. In the early years of the show they were more main characters but over time they have morphed more and more into stereotypical caricatures meant to laugh with. Originally written in as highly dramatic characters

the public reaction and endless stream of Ruth the meanie and Robin RLP merchandise, caused in large part by the incredible overacting of the original actresses, made this evolution inevitable.

I don't think it's possible to make them more real and likable now in a realistic way. Then again it's soap so realism is not really required

Oh my my my, why don't the producers introduce a Republican type liaison? Perhaps they may want to shoot an episode in the C street house while its occupants 'hike the Appalachian Trail'.
